Wanted: Financial Advisor – One of the Best Jobs in the World

umbrellaThis is the continuation of the series: “10 Clues on How to Know if your Job makes you a Modern Day Hero” – posted last week.

Previously, I asked what are the clues on How to Know if your Job makes you a Modern Day Hero. The clues were divided into 3 clusters that talks about different responsibilities: the first one: Social responsibility, second is Community responsibility and the third cluster is all about your personal and family responsibility.

Let us go back to the questions and I will state the reason why financial advising is one of the best jobs/career in the world:

  1. Does your job make you help other people fulfil their dreams?

As a financial advisor, we bridge the gap between dreams and making it a reality by making families realize the importance of planning and acting on it.

  1. Does your job make you help people at the lowest point of their lives?

They said, the lowest point in a person’s life is a family member’s death. In fact, they said in time of death, families suffer two kinds of pain. One is emotional pain and another is financial pain. We help take care of the financial pain and let the family morn with dignity and help the demised person leave a legacy, (his last love letter to his family) in the form of a big fat check.

  1. Does your job make other people see that there is God and there is HOPE?

Since we are there in times of uncertainties, we serve not only in time of death, we also give hope in time of illness, accidents and even disability. People get help in forms of insurances and that will give them the reason to hope. God sends His help by using us as His instruments.

Also, the Insurance Industry, aside from staying true to the insurance contract – the insurers (insurance companies) also donate money, relief goods and many other resources to charitable institutions. In fact, insurance industry donated money and resources that were used by victims of typhoon Yolanda, through different charities and foundations, totalling the amount of PHP 91 Million Pesos.

  1. Does your job help your country’s economy grow?

The Insurance industry is now being touted as a PHP 854 Billion industry with projections that by the end of 2014, the industry will be worth over TRILLION PESOS when it comes to assets.

In addition, Senator Grace Poe also commented in her speech, Leaving the Legacy, “if more and more people will be insured and become more self-reliant, this will greatly reduce the number of people who will ask to the public servants, “pampalibing and pampagamot,” maybe, just maybe, politicians will not have a reason to be corrupt.”

  1. Does your job create jobs for other people who need it?

Needless to say, the industry is growing and creating more and more jobs. I myself have a staff of my own and I can say I created jobs for other people.

  1. Does your job help lessen poverty and crime?

If more breadwinners are insured and protected. In times of death of these breadwinners, the family and children that are left behind will be protected from poverty and probably a life of crime. How many stories have we heard that a family was broken because the father (breadwinner) died without leaving anything behind (insurance)? How many children that were previously studying literally needed to quit, was led astray and even committed crimes?

  1. Does your job help educate the world?

The main task of a financial advisor is to educate the world about how to handle and protect their money, how to utilize it to save and invest wisely. But to see enlightenment of people the moment I educate them and to witness them doing something from what they have learned, is really priceless. This is one of my most favorite part of this job, the advocacy for financial literacy. This is where my job becomes a vocation rather than just a mere job.

  1. Does your job give you high earnings that can also help you and your family fulfill your own needs and wants?

This is unlike any other job, that whatever you do, no matter how much effort you put, the salary is usually always the same. Personally, I can tell that this is one of the most gratifying jobs in the world. The degree of effort is equal to degree of rewards. The more you work hard, the more you can give your family not only their needs but also their wants.

  1. Does your job allow you to travel, explore life and contribute to your own personal growth?

I can say, I almost always travel the world for free. I have been to Singapore, Bangkok, China, Vietnam, Hawaii, and Canada in just 4 years in the industry. To be able to get there, can widen your life’s perspectives and understand how the world runs from different side of the globe.

In addition, I gained another masters degree in this industry. And the fact that we study a lot. All the seminars, workshops and trainings are non-stop. All contributing to personal growth.

10. Does your job afford you enough time with your family and help you be with your family’s most treasured moments.

This is perhaps the most important and most gratifying reason why I love my career. I get to be with my family whenever they need me. I got to breastfeed my baby up to now (she’s 1 ½ years old), I get to stay if anyone of my family gets sick (I am the doctor of the family), I get to just stay whenever we just feel like bonding together. As I look back, I can confidently say, I am always there for them.

Gone are the days that you need to sacrifice your life and your family’s life in order to be a hero. To be a present day hero, you need to have a balance of important things in his life and not to neglect the most important in his life which is your family.
