It’s nearing Christmas, and as Filipinos, we love putting up small businesses. You or you may have a friend who has a small business and to show your support, you love to help them out by buying from them.
“Question: Should you ask for a freebie or a discount from a friend’s business?”
These are the Top 4 Reasons Why You Should Not Ask a Freebie or a Discount from a Friend’s Business
1. You are doing it to support your friend
Your friend could be new in the business and she needs a vote of confidence from who else? You! (her family/friend).
Paying the full price may not even mean so much from you, or it might not going to change your life either. But it will really mean a lot to your friend. Sometimes, it’s not all about the money, it’s all about the validation you are giving her.
2. You should be happy for her and aim to really make her happy
Having you paying the full price of what she is offering will make you both happy. It’s like getting paid from your first job, it’s highly emotional. How would it feel if you are getting your first salary and it is not in full amount? You should be happy or even thrilled for her.
Also, you have to remember, if you ask for a discount or a freebie, she may not have the courage to resist you, making her less happy. If you are planning to support her, make her feel your full, unabridged support.
3. You can’t imagine the amount of effort she puts in
Having a business means doing all the work as much as possible to cut the production cost. Being the business owner could mean, your friend is a one-man-team, present in all the stages of production, technical, marketing and sometimes even in the delivery. Reward her efforts by buying from her the full price.
4. You don’t ask for discounts in malls, why ask from her
Remember the most recent time you bought from a mall? Did you ask for a discount? No, right? Those products are made by big business entrepreneurs earning probably millions a day, then why do you ask a discount from a friend who’s probably may not even earning yet. Think about it.
Now, what can you do?
Here is a suggestion: The next time an entrepreneur friend offers a discount, don’t take it. Pay the full price. Be gracious and generous and say, “I appreciate the offer, but I’m happy to pay. In fact, I insist.”
I promise you, you will feel good and your friend will feel happier. Remember, it’s not all about the money, it’s about the validation and the support you made her feel.
Now, go ahead, practice that today. Buy from a friend’s business at full price and may God bless you in making your friend prosper.
Share this article to your wall and tag your entrepreneur friend, it’s one way helping her out to tell to the world about this. He/she will thank you for this.
