Yes, you read it right. My 5-year-old child is now a published author.
Her dream of becoming an author began when she saw me making my own book and slowly bringing it to life. “The Green Book For Doctors.”
She then brought this up to her teacher in Montessori, she said, “I want to become an author like my mom!” Then her teacher let her draw and write her own story. “The Happy Giraffe”
When we saw the mini-book she made, my husband and I realized that this is a “Teachable Moment” for our child and we have to do something about it.
Showing and proving to our daughter that anything she can imagine can become a reality, even if she is still a child. If her mom can write a book and get it published, then she too can succeed with her dreams.
The values we want to teach her are:
- Courage – being brave enough to reach for her goals even if sometimes they seemed to be impossible.
- Passion – from that moment that she wanted to be an author, she pursued her passion by really taking action and bringing her dream to life.
- Joy – that whenever she does something, there should be joy in her heart while doing it. We can see she is really happy while writing the story.
- Worthiness – we wanted to show her that she is worthy, her dreams are valid and worthy to be seen.
The life skills we want to teach her are:
- Entrepreneurship – We printed only a hundred copies. We gave away a few of her books for free to her friends during her 6th birthday celebration at school. The other copies, we sold it, just to cover for the printing cost. Of course we will give her a little royalty for that.
- Resourcefulness – for her to develop quick and clever ways to overcome challenges.
- Curiosity – always asking the “what if” and “why” and seeking new and creative ways of learning and doing. While writing the book, she became very curious with giraffes.
I guess, those are just the few values and skills that I can name for now. The book she created is more than a book. It may not earn much or it may not earn at all. But it’s ok, earning was never the purpose, the reason for the book is for her to see that the possibilities are endless in this world. All she needs to do is open up, welcome them and pursue them.
And for us, the proud parents, we also wanted her to feel that we love and support her in all the ways we possibly can.
For all the parents out there reading this blog, I hope Tati was able to inspire you. If she can write a book and get it published at age 5, what are you waiting for, for your dream to come true? Whatever it is!
For those who wanted to get the limited copy of the book, just PM me. I hope when you do reach out, I still have some copies left.
The Book is also available on GOOGLE PLAYBOOKS:

To all our friends and family, we need your support. Let us show our children that the world is full of possibilities. They can become who they want to be.

Thank you. 🙂
Good day Dra Pinky.
I am very much impressed with the initiative of your daughter.
Since we had a several communication in the email, I find it very interesting to learn new things from you not preferably medical related issue specially the BIR concern.
Let us face it that it is really a reality that we, the medical doctors are not so familiar with non-medical concern.
Dr Pinky, I do believe that I might be same age as your mom. I am 58 years old turning 59 this year.
I spent 23 years of my life as Medical Officer and served retired with the rank of COLONEL in Armed Forces of the Philippines.
By this stage of my life, I need to move on and practice my profession in a lighter physical duties snd responsibilities.
At this stage, I find it that I am much more interested to seat in front of the PC and trying to search new and another chapter of my life. At my age, turning into senior citizen in less that 2 years time, as if I am still hunger for additional knowledge, maybe in research world.
The younger generations which they call “Mellenials” are very fortunate that there are lots of resources / references which they can use for the future for the even more younger generations.
I think it is timely that I able to know you even if we do not see each other personally… Thank you for your time reading my message and giving time to answer my query.
Hoping for a more blessings for you and your family, friends, relatives.. everybody in your environment. Hoping that one of these days, we will be able to meet each other personally… You are a gift to individual like me.
Thank you and God Bless
